Chat History - Tower of Babelfish Performance

Tran Spire, Tea Chenille, Great Escape, Lizsolo Mathilde hanging out
at the Eiffel Tower in NewParis.

Hello Performance Art fans! Tran Spire signing in.

Here is the chat history from our Tower of Babelfish performance the other night at the Eiffel Tower in New Paris. To accompany the bridal gear that I wore at the tower I contributed to the written text (IN BOLD) by translating an 1969 BBC radio interview by Harvey Matusow with Charlotte Moorman discussing her organization of the New York Avant Garde Arts Festival.

Let everyone without exception see the supernatural that is in Art so that faith, the new faith of Art, may enter into them all, and all men may enter into a great new worldwide civilisation of the beautiful. So be it.
[18:12] Wirxli Flimflam: Snow Crash goes into the theory of lethal texts in detail, defining them as "speech with magical force." Another character, the Librarian, explains that the Neo-Parisians developed what they called "freedom-fries", trans-fatty stick bundles which destroyed the ability of their hearers to understand language. These pommes frittes existed on a curiously dual level, analogous to the USE-MENTION dichotomy well known in molecular biology and information theory. They were stories of the the destruction of language which had the effect of destroying language. To hear the story—the freedom-fries—forced the listener to experience the effect it described.

He was hindered by the last obstacle that even a Mies van der Rohe hadn't been able to overcome: the roof, the screen that separates us from the sky, from the blue sky. And I was hindered by the screen that the tangible blue on the canvas constitutes, which deprives man of a constant vision of the horizon.

Speaking in tongues is a neurological phenomenon which is exploited by religion. Snow Crash further posits that glossolalia recovers a now-lost ur-language, the language which supposedly existed prior to Babel. In the world of Snow Crash, that language is NEo-Parisian, which is in fact the oldest written language, and has no known descendants.

[18:14] Wirxli Flimflam: When he logs on to the Metaverse, an imaginary place entered via computer, Wirxli encounters Second Front, a ``radical'' Theosophist and politically correct theorists. They warn He/She off Snow Crash (an Eiffel Tower named for traffic seduction) and gives her/him a file labeled Babel (as in Tower of Babel). Another friend, Chi5 Shenzhou, who ignores Second Front's warning, computer crashes out of Metaverse into the laggy real world, where she physically collapses. Wirxli, Second Front, Fwwixli Swindlehurst (a freewheeling, skateboard-riding foster daughter) and sundry other Burbclave and Odyssey Island figures see some action on the way to finding out who is behind this bizarre ``tower'' with ancient roots. Although Linden Labs (creators of SL) provides more Neo-Parisian culture than the story strictly needs (alternating intense activity with scholarship breaks), their imaginative juxtaposition of ancient and futuristic detail could make this a cult favorite.
